Our History

AUS Scales building Merv and Elaine Williams founded Australasia Scales in 1979. It began in a small area under the family home with Merv servicing South East and North Queensland by himself. A lot of the work at this time was metric conversions and "Metric Merv" wore his own track between Brisbane and the Whitsundays carrying our conversions and services. Before long MKW Contracting as it was then known had relocated to a workshop, more staff were hired and a concentrated push began to become the premier weighing company in Queensland.

In the mid eighties a name change saw the birth of Australasia Scales, the Brisbane office had expanded to seven staff and North Queensland industry was continuing to grow to the point where a branch in Rockhampton became feasible. After a few false starts with the branch in the late 80's, Darren Mann who completed his apprenticeship with Australasia Scales took over as Manager in the early 90's and has since become the go to guy for weighing equipment in Rockhampton and surrounding districts. As a side note Darren Mann was one of the last apprentices in Queensland to complete a Scale Maker Trade.

The mid to late nineties saw us branch out from a sales/service/repair business to one that looked for challenges in the weighing field and set about conquering those challenges. Innovation in the weighing industry was focused on and Australasia Scales developed a reputation of building weighing equipment to the customer's requirements rather than bending the customer's operations to the scale's abilities.

In early 2000 Australasia Scales entered into an agreement with Wayne Bradcock of CAS Scales NZ to become the sole industrial dealer in Queensland. This added a diversity to the company that allowed for the expansion of our Sales Team. Over time a core group of employees had formed, Gabrielle Moore, Darren Mann, Adam Fenwick and Craig Holman, between them there is 46 years service with Australasia Scales. With Merv starting to consider retirement the core group of four joined with Wayne Bradcock to complete a staff buy out of Australasia Scales.

These five are actively involved in the Company's running and performance and all hold key positions. Australasia Scales is continuing to grow under their direction and with Quality being the No 1 priority customers will continue to benefit from the expertise on offer.
